HORSE RIDING
We always encourage getting off the vehicle to appreciate the reserve’s vastness and beauty differently. Without the hum of the safari vehicle, your surroundings come alive with bird song and animal calls, the crunch of dry grass beneath hooves, the breeze on your skin, a curious giraffe peering over the top of a camel thorn, and red Kalahari dust kicked up by retreating oryx, eland or kudu. Horse riding is a magical way to experience a wilderness area like Tswalu, following game paths through the grasslands, stopping to watch the action at a water hole or a Sociable Weaver colony. Longer rides head west over the dunes to enjoy sunset drinks or to spend the evening at Malori, our secluded star bed.
The stables at Tswalu have well-schooled horses suitable for intermediate to expert riders. Even so, experiencing Tswalu on horseback is not about speed or the thrill of the chase, but rather about gently exploring while enjoying the views, animal sightings and birding from the saddle.
